On the night of our visit, we ran into Michael Emerson (Ben Linus from Lost) and his wife, Carrie Preston (Arlene from True Blood). Oh, and something else that was cool was that the Library ended up being a great place to celebrity watch. =) Finally, the service was great-both the servers and bartender were friendly and added to the awesome experience. We tried a few of their speciality drinks as well, and they were all tasty. It was great to feel like I didn't have to yell at my companions that night.Īs for the food, we only had dessert (the Gala Apple Cobbler, which was yummy), but I saw lots of food being delivered to tables, and it all looked mouthwatering. It's relatively quiet inside, which is great b/c there are soooo many noisy bars in this city. The place is decorated like a formal library, which is really cool, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. LOVE this place! We went here the other day for a b-day celebration and was pleasantly surprised on how nice it was. I'll definitely update this review when I do. Everything looked yummy, and I can't wait to come back and try the food. I didn't try the food at Fedora but saw some amazing things pass by me as orders were delivered to tables nearby. Cocktails were somewhere around $13, and draft beer was around $6. Amazing! By the way, the drink prices here aren't too exorbitant especially when you consider the high quality of the drinks. He didn't use these in my drink, but he used them in a friend's drink that I tasted. One of these that I remember was grapefruit-infused bitters. He was like an alchemist! He had these small dropper bottles with unique ingredients that he carefully added to each drink to make it delicious. So just what made this drink concoction so amazing? Well, I suspect it was the skill of the bartender, Brian (I think that was his name). Wow! Best drink I've had out in a bar in a long time! I had the Black Squirrel Old Fashioned, and it was possibly the best drink I've had all year. It can get a bit cramped inside during Happy Hour, but that's to be expected. The decor at Yuca is colorful, fun, and inviting. Drink-wise, you absolutely can't go wrong with their Happy Hour drink specials-so why not make a point to arrive before happy hour ends! =) and, the place is always full of energy and hoppin' - a sure sign of a good time!!!Īs for food, I've tried a number of their selections-all tasty! Some of the highlights include: their various arepas (just look at the pics people have posted on Yelp!), their guacamole (I had a special seafood guacamole they served one weekend-delicious!), and their tapas combo platters (pinchos variados is my favorite-it's a large platter of skewed meats with some awesome dipping sauces on the side). they feature a ton of delicious tapas on their menu (and they're not stingy with portion sizes like alot of tapas restaurants are). What's not to love? They have an awesome Happy Hour where you can get (strong, tasty) margaritas for $5. I freakin' love margaritas, I love Mexican food, and I love this place. Take it from me-they do greasy bar food right! The food at Julius' is awesome, too! Get the Julius Burger with cheese and bacon and the works! It's super tasty! The onion rings and fries are good as well. Yep, you heard right, 9p!! Awesomeness!! During this time, they feature half-price well drinks and beer. The back of the bar has tables only and is set up so you can grab your bar food and relax a bit while eating.Īs for drinks, they have an awesome happy hour from Monday to Saturday that goes from 4p to 9p. So, what can you expect if you head to Julius'? Well, the bar's been around for over 100 years-so it's divey! But, that's cool, right? For me it is because I love me a dive bar!! In traditional dive bar fashion, the front part of Julius' features a long bar with stools and some tables. and has been for much longer than I've been alive. and, sure, while it has been open since 1867, it wasn't always gay! But, it sure is now. This is an awesome throwback gay bar in NYC that not only serves up some delicious, cheap cocktails, but they have some rockin' food, too! Supposedly this is the oldest continuously operating gay bar in New York.
